DeSoto ISD Confirms Instructional Time Compliance Following Winter Weather Closures
Following recent winter weather that required school closures to ensure the safety of students and staff, DeSoto Independent School District confirms that it remains fully compliant with Texas Education Agency (TEA) instructional time requirements for the 2025–2026 school year.
TEA guidelines allow districts to utilize built-in inclement weather days to make up for instructional time missed due to weather-related closures.
In alignment with this guidance, April 6, 2026, has been designated as an Inclement Weather Day to account for instructional time missed on Wednesday, January 28, 2026.
This adjustment ensures students receive the required 75,600 instructional minutes for the school year and does not require a TEA waiver at this time.
“No action is required from families,” shared DeSoto iSD Chief Academic Officer Stephanie McCloud. “This approach allows us to prioritize safety while maintaining strong instructional standards and continuity for our students.”
DeSoto ISD will continue to monitor weather conditions and communicate proactively should additional adjustments become necessary. The district remains committed to balancing student safety, instructional integrity, and fiscal responsibility.
Families, staff, and community members are encouraged to stay connected through official district communication channels for updates.
