DeSoto Independent School District (DeSoto ISD) is proud to celebrate National School Breakfast Week, March 2–6, 2026, highlighting the important role a nutritious breakfast plays in fueling student success.

In partnership with its child nutrition provider, Whitson's Culinary Group, DeSoto ISD proudly offers free breakfast and lunch to all district scholars, ensuring every student begins the school day nourished and ready to learn. This year’s National School Breakfast Week theme, “The Quest for School Breakfast,” emphasizes how a healthy breakfast supports academic achievement and overall well-being. Research consistently shows that students who eat school breakfast are more alert, demonstrate improved concentration, perform better academically, and maintain better overall health.

“Ensuring our scholars have access to a healthy breakfast is foundational to their success,” said Dr. Gene Morrow, Executive Director of Student Support Services. “When students’ basic needs are met, they are better positioned to focus, engage in learning, and thrive both academically and socially. National School Breakfast Week is a great reminder of the critical role nutrition plays in the whole-child approach we value in DeSoto ISD.”

Dr. Anita Perry, Executive Director of CCMR and Counseling Services, emphasized the connection between nutrition and long-term student outcomes. “College, career, and military readiness begins with strong daily habits and consistent academic engagement,” said Dr. Perry. “A nutritious breakfast fuels the mind and body, helping scholars start their day prepared to learn, participate, and work toward their future goals. We are proud to support initiatives that remove barriers and create equitable access for all students.”

By working together, DeSoto ISD aims to increase breakfast participation while creating a fun, engaging experience for students across the district.
