The DeSoto Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a one-year extension for the district’s Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Usamah Rodgers, following completion of its recent annual evaluation.
The extension was unanimously approved during the board's meeting on Jan. 21, 2025. The motion, introduced and seconded during the meeting, also authorized legal counsel and the board president to negotiate the inclusion of an automatic one-year renewal clause in Rodgers' contract.
The vote passed unanimously, with all seven board members voting in favor of the motion.
In a gesture of appreciation, board members commended Rodgers for her contributions to the district, highlighting her alignment with the values of DeSoto ISD’s families and students.
“Dr. Rodgers, thank you so much for everything you’ve done for our district. Thank you for choosing DeSoto ISD. Just like our families and students choose DeSoto, you chose DeSoto like we’ve chosen you. Thank you for continuing to be a partner with the trustees and the community and thank you so much for everything you’ve done and for sticking around with us,” DeSoto ISD School Board President Chasiti McKissic.
“This community deserves a leader who reflects the passion and commitment we see in our families and students, and Dr. Rodgers has done just that.”
Rodgers, in turn, expressed gratitude for the board's decision, emphasizing the collaborative nature of the district’s progress.
“I just want to say thank you so much for the opportunity to serve this great community. I really appreciate working with everyone as a team and look forward to carrying the torch to complete the job we started.”
