In a celebration dedicated to elegance, excellence, and the educators who help shape the future of DeSoto ISD, Crissy Peterson-Smith made district history as the inaugural recipient of the district’s first-ever Assistant Principal of the Year honor during the May 15, 2026, Cadence of Celebration gala themed “Putting on the Ritz: An Ode to Employee Excellence.”
The annual district celebration honors employees for their dedication and service through milestone service awards, retiree recognitions, Teacher of the Year honors, and Administrative Leaders of the Year acknowledgements.
Peterson-Smith was recognized for her exceptional leadership, unwavering commitment to student achievement, and dedication to fostering high-quality learning environments for scholars, staff, and families.
A dedicated and accomplished educational leader, Peterson-Smith brings extensive experience in early childhood and elementary education and is deeply committed to supporting the intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development of students while advancing organizational excellence.
Prior to serving as Assistant Principal at Amber Terrace Early Childhood Learning Center, Peterson-Smith served as a principal in Fort Worth ISD, where she led with a focus on instructional quality, operational effectiveness, and collaborative culture. Throughout her career, she has worked closely with faculty, families, and community partners to ensure students receive exceptional educational experiences while cultivating strong relationships that support student success.
Her leadership background also includes service as an Assistant Principal in Dallas ISD, where she supported district initiatives, instructional improvement efforts, and technology integration in the classroom. Additional roles as an Early Learning Specialist, HB3 Reading Academies Cohort Leader, and Instructional Coach further reflect her longstanding commitment to teacher development, curriculum design, and early literacy advancement.
Peterson-Smith holds a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Prairie View A&M University and a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies and Early Childhood Education from Texas Woman’s University.
Known for her strengths in strategic planning, team building, coaching, and curriculum development, Peterson-Smith continues to exemplify visionary leadership and a deep commitment to creating inclusive, student-centered learning environments where all students can thrive.
