DeSoto ISD Advances Vision for New Frank D. Moates Elementary Through Community Design Engagement

DeSoto Independent
School District is taking another major step forward in the implementation of
the district’s 2025 Bond Program with continued progress toward the development
of a new Frank D. Moates Elementary School campus.
As previously communicated by the district, some students
and staff currently housed at the Moates campus will relocate to another
district campus beginning in the 2026–2027 academic year to support the
construction process associated with the new campus development.
In partnership with bond program collaborators WRA
Architects and PROCEDEO, the district has now reached a significant milestone
in design readiness for the future Moates Elementary facility. To help shape
the final vision of the campus, the district will host a Community Charrette
and Visioning Session designed to gather stakeholder input and community
perspectives that will influence the final design elements of the new school.
The event will take place on Thursday, May 28, at 9 a.m.
in the Moates Elementary cafeteria.
The Community Charrette is intended to bring together
approximately 40 participants, including teachers, students, parents,
administrators, and community stakeholders for collaborative dialogue focused
on honoring the legacy of Moates while envisioning a modern learning
environment that inspires future generations of scholars.
“Community voice remains a critical component of the bond
process and our vision for the future of DeSoto ISD,” said Brent S. Mitchell.
“As we continue advancing toward a new Moates Elementary, this session provides
an important opportunity for stakeholders to help shape a campus that reflects
both the pride of the community and the evolving needs of our scholars.”
The visioning session agenda will include:
- Welcome
and Purpose of the Visioning Session led by Brent S. Mitchell
- Overview
of the DeSoto ISD Strategic Vision and vision for the new Moates Academy
- Bond
project and design updates from WRA Architects, including site
considerations
- Interactive
stakeholder activity focused on celebrating the legacy of Moates and
envisioning the future campus experience
- Share-outs,
reflections, and next steps from district and project leadership
The session aligns with the district’s broader commitment to
transparency, stakeholder engagement, and strategic investment following voter
approval of the nearly $199.9 million 2025 bond package focused on modernizing
aging campuses and facilities across the district.
