The DeSoto Independent School District Board of Trustees is accepting applications from eligible district residents who wish to be considered for Place 2 on the Board of Trustees.
At its September 28, 2026 meeting, the Board approved a public application process to fill the vacancy. The individual appointed will serve until the next trustee election in May 2027 and the qualification of the elected successor. The Place 2 term concludes in May 2028.
The appointment will be made by a vote of the remaining trustees at a properly posted open meeting in accordance with Section 11.060 of the Texas Education Code.
As the governing body of DeSoto ISD, the Board of Trustees establishes district policies, provides fiscal oversight, sets strategic priorities, and works to ensure positive outcomes for students, staff, and the community.
To be eligible for appointment, an applicant must:
· Be a United States citizen
· Be 18 years of age or older
· Not have been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote
· Not have been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities
· Have resided continuously in the State of Texas for at least 12 months and in DeSoto ISD for at least six months immediately preceding the date of appointment
· Be a registered voter within the district
· Not be required to register as a sex offender under Chapter 62, Texas Code of Criminal Procedure

Applications received after the deadline may not be considered.
