DeSoto High School proudly celebrated academic excellence during its annual Valedictorian and Salutatorian Reveal on April 29, 2025, recognizing the top scholars of the Class of 2025. Evonne Foo was named this year’s valedictorian, and Addyson Walton earned the title of salutatorian, both honored for their exceptional achievement and dedication.

“These are our highest-ranking graduates with the highest GPAs, and we’re super excited about celebrating them,” said Stephanie McCloud, DeSoto ISD chief academic officer.

The moment was filled with emotion and excitement as both students were genuinely surprised by the announcement—and by the presence of their proud parents, who were invited as a special part of the reveal. Surrounded by cheering peers, supportive faculty, and family members, Foo and Walton were visibly moved by the recognition.

Foo, this year’s valedictorian, is a standout both academically and in service. She has served as a GEAR UP ambassador, is a dedicated student-athlete on the DeSoto High School tennis team and has volunteered with the DeSoto Fire Department—demonstrating her passion for community and public service.

She is also a prestigious Gates Scholar and has committed to attend the University of Virginia, where she plans to pursue her dream of becoming a medical doctor. Known for her quiet determination, compassion, and discipline, Foo has earned the admiration of both staff and students alike.

“Evonne is a special talent,” said Leon Darden, director of DeSoto ISD ECHS and P-TECH programs. “She is the consummate kid that we want at DeSoto Collegiate High School.”

While Foo is known for her academic drive and strong character, Walton brings an equally impactful presence on campus through leadership, spirit, and service. Walton has committed to attend Louisiana State University, where she plans to major in English and pursue a career as a family attorney—a goal fueled by her passion for advocacy and communication.

She has held several leadership roles at DeSoto High School, including Color Guard Dance Captain, GEAR UP ambassador, CTE ambassador, Student Council member, and National Honor Society inductee. Her commitment to both school spirit and service has made her a well-respected leader on campus.

“When you talk about Addyson, you’re talking about the life of the party,” Darden added. “She’s a tremendous young lady, and I am looking forward to managing and watching her success from afar.”

The celebration began with the DeSoto High School drumline marching through the halls, setting a festive and ceremonial tone before the formal announcement. The event spotlighted not only the academic accomplishments of Foo and Walton, but also the perseverance, leadership, and spirit that define their high school journeys. This special recognition reflects DeSoto ISD’s commitment to its Triple-A Experience, which emphasizes academics, arts, and athletics—equipping students to thrive in college, careers, and life beyond the classroom.

As Foo and Walton prepare to take the stage at graduation, their success stands as a source of inspiration for their peers and a proud milestone for the DeSoto High School community.
