DeSoto High School’s Kerry Sweeny Recognized with #SumerSports Recruiting Coordinator Spotlight Award
DeSoto Independent School District is proud to announce that Kerry Sweeny, Assistant Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Offensive Coordinator, and Passing Game Coordinator for the DeSoto High School Eagles football program, has received the #SumerSports Recruiting Coordinator Spotlight Award in recognition of his exceptional contributions to athlete recruitment and program development.
Sweeny, a key member of the Eagles’ coaching staff, has played a critical role in guiding the program toward its third state championship in four years. Serving under the leadership of Head Coach Claude Mathis, the 2023 THSCA Coach of the Year, Sweeny’s work ensures that talented student-athletes are recruited, developed, and positioned to succeed both on and off the field.
In addition to his responsibilities with the DeSoto Eagles football program, Sweeny helped coach the inaugural season of the DeSoto High School Girls Flag Football program last year, further demonstrating his commitment to expanding athletic opportunities and supporting student engagement across programs.
Sweeny also contributed as a member of the coaching staff for the 2026 Army-Navy Bowl Game, highlighting his dedication to providing student-athletes with elite competitive opportunities. His efforts have strengthened the nationally recognized DeSoto High School football program and enhanced its visibility as a leader in Texas high school athletics.

Kerry Sweeny serves as Assistant Coach, Recruiting Coordinator, Offensive Coordinator, and Passing Game Coordinator at DeSoto High School. He is widely respected for his leadership in player recruitment, offensive development, and student-athlete mentorship. In addition to his work with the Eagles football program, Sweeny helped coach the inaugural season of DeSoto High School Girls Flag Football. His contributions have directly supported the Eagles’ pursuit of state championships while providing students with opportunities to excel academically, athletically, and personally.
