DeSoto Independent School District proudly announces that Head Football Coach Claude Mathis of DeSoto High School will be recognized for his outstanding achievements, including leading the Eagles to three 6A Division II State Championships, at the Annual Black History Festival on Saturday, February 21, 2026, from 12 Noon to 3 PM.

The festival, hosted at Singing Hills Funeral Home and Laurel Land Funeral Home & Memorial Park, celebrates excellence in athletics, education, and community leadership, while honoring the legacy of Black history and culture. Coach Mathis will join other distinguished state championship-winning coaches, including Jason Todd of South Oak Cliff High School and Regniald Samples of Duncanville High School, in receiving special recognition for their accomplishments.

The festival encourages family participation, offering food, fun, and a safe environment for all ages.
