The DeSoto Independent School District celebrated a proud moment of athletic and academic achievement during its October 27, 2025, Board of Trustees meeting, as State Board of Education Representative Dr. Tiffany Clark, a district alumnae, educator, and former trustee, presented a formal resolution recognizing the DeSoto High School Girls Flag Football team for its exceptional inaugural season and historic district championship title.

The resolution, issued by Dr. Clark, commended the student-athletes and coaching staff for their outstanding performance, sportsmanship, and leadership as trailblazers in the district’s first-ever girls flag football program.

“The young women of DeSoto High School have made history—not just by winning, but by leading,” said Dr. Tiffany Clark, State Board of Education Representative. “Their hard work, determination, and excellence both on and off the field embody the best of what public education stands for. This inaugural team has set a standard of excellence and equity that will inspire future generations of student-athletes across Texas.”

The 2025 season marked the launch of DeSoto ISD’s first girls flag football team, reflecting the district’s ongoing commitment to expanding athletic opportunities and promoting inclusive programming for all students. The team’s immediate success—culminating in a district championship—underscored both their talent and the strong foundation of support from coaches, families, and the broader DeSoto community.

DeSoto ISD Board President Chasiti McKissic expressed pride in the team’s achievement and the example it sets for young women across the district.

“These student-athletes are more than champions—they are pioneers,” said McKissic. “They have shown our community what happens when preparation meets opportunity. This moment is a reminder of the power of representation and what it means for our girls to see themselves breaking barriers and making history.”

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Usamah Rodgers praised the recognition as a reflection of DeSoto ISD’s commitment to student opportunity, leadership, and holistic development.

“The success of our girls flag football team is a celebration of access, equity, and excellence,” said Dr. Rodgers. “DeSoto ISD is intentional about ensuring that every student has the opportunity to discover their passion, develop their gifts, and lead with confidence. We are deeply grateful to Dr. Clark and the State Board of Education for recognizing the remarkable accomplishments of our student-athletes and the vision that guides our district forward.”

The event concluded with applause from the audience as team members and coaches accepted the resolution and posed for commemorative photos alongside Dr. Clark, district administrators, and trustees.

As DeSoto ISD continues to expand its athletic programs and celebrate student achievement, the district remains committed to ensuring that every student—on every field and in every classroom—has the opportunity to succeed.
