In the spirit of celebrating student creativity and historical awareness, DeSoto ISD is proud to announce a Black History Month student tribute opportunity, mirroring the district’s previous efforts in honoring Hispanic Heritage Month.
Students interested in participating are asked to submit a photo of themselves dressed as a historical figure they admire by email to [email protected] with subject line: 2026 BHM Photo Shoot, accompanied by a brief paragraph explaining:
- The impact and legacy of their chosen individual
- How that legacy resonates with them personally
- In what ways this person inspires their future
Important Dates:
- Submission Deadline: January 21, 2026
- Photo Shoot Week: January 26, 2026
Selected students will also be invited to participate in the filming of a yet-to-be-determined literary work reflecting this observance.
The district will accept the first eight submissions received.
This initiative provides students with a meaningful way to explore history, express creativity, and reflect on the leaders who have shaped our world, while sharing their insights with the broader school community.
