Per the executive order issued on March 31, 2020, by Texas Governor Greg Abbott, DeSoto ISD buildings, campuses and facilities will remain closed indefinitely. The district will continue to provide instruction through the Anytime, Anywhere Learning  Plan and operate remotely during this time. All students and staff are expected to continue their respective work during this time and through the end of the school year unless otherwise notified by district leadership.

We care about the health and safety of our DeSoto ISD community and will continue to do our part to support efforts to flatten the curve of the COVID-19 pandemic. It is extremely important for our students and families to limit contact with others outside their immediate families during this time. And, we join our healthcare colleagues in strongly recommending that everyone stay home and avoid close contact with others. Please follow the social distancing orders and recommendations provided by the Center for Disease Control, local and federal officials, and health care experts.

Anytime, Anywhere Learning Plan

While our school buildings are closed, DeSoto ISD will continue to provide virtual educational experiences and resources through the Anytime, Anywhere Learning  Plan. While early phases of the district’s learning plan were centralized, the Anytime, Anywhere Learning Plan provides a district-guided framework for flexible, consistent high-quality, localized instruction facilitated by your child’s teacher in the digital space.

Not only have we developed tech and non-tech-based instructional materials and plans for our families ensuring that access to tech and internet is not a barrier to learning and academic growth, we have also included social-emotional development pieces to help students work through the emotional impact of this public health concern and to help them process normal experiences and emotions they may have.

In addition, we understand that physical activity and wellness enhances social and emotional wellbeing which optimizes learning. Therefore, we recently added a physical education component to our Anytime, Anywhere Learning  Plan to help students stay active while at home.

FREE Curbside Meal Distribution

We appreciate the opportunity to provide meals to children in the DeSoto ISD community and we have expanded our meal service locations. In addition to opening more meal distribution sites, the food service governing agencies have relaxed the rule that students must be present to receive meals.

Students no longer have to be present with a parent during meal distribution if the parent can provide any of the following verification methods to staff at the distribution site:

  • Official letter/email/electronic school application from school listing children enrolled
  • Individual student report cards
  • Attendance record from parent portal of the school website, printed or electronic, that includes the name(s) of the child(ren)
  • Birth certificates for children not in school
  • Student ID cards

The packaged meals will be distributed in a drive-thru fashion, so no one will need to exit their personal vehicles. Children do not have to be a student at the campus to qualify for the meal. Meals are served by door access, sometimes on the side of the building so keep an eye out for tables set up outside. Free meals for children 18 and under will be served at:

  • DeSoto High School - Freshman Side
  • Cockrell Hill Elementary School
  • Frank D. Moates Elementary
  • The Meadows Elementary
  • Ruby Young Elementary School
  • Woodridge Elementary
  • Amber Terrace DDC - Food Truck

Meals for breakfast and lunch can be picked up in a single visit and will be served weekdays from 9 AM - 1 PM.

We are committed to serving our community and meeting the needs of our students, families and staff. As a school district, we will continue to work alongside our governmental agencies to ensure that we are in alignment with the guidance and decisions that will come forth as we continue to forge our way through this public crisis.

Please know we are here and we are listening. Should you require support or have questions, please email us at [email protected].
