DeSoto Independent School District has named Carl LaJaunie Jr. the new band director at DeSoto High School.

LaJaunie is a graduate of Southern University and A&M College, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in music education. He is a dedicated educator focused on developing skilled musicians, confident leaders and lifelong learners.

“I am committed to building a band program that represents excellence in every performance, every classroom and every community appearance,” LaJaunie said.

Throughout his career, LaJaunie has helped revitalize band programs by increasing student enrollment, strengthening parent and community involvement, and leading multiple ensembles to historic superior ratings in University Interscholastic League competition.

His students have earned placements in district honor bands and received millions of dollars in band scholarships. LaJaunie also has been recognized as a Teacher of the Year and an All-City Band director.

“Our students will be challenged to grow as musicians and leaders while carrying forward the pride, discipline and tradition of DeSoto,” LaJaunie said.

LaJaunie believes every student can achieve excellence through strong musical fundamentals, meaningful opportunities and a program culture centered on discipline, pride and family.

In his new role, LaJaunie will lead the DeSoto High School band program and support students as they grow academically, artistically and personally.

“We are going to work with purpose, perform with confidence and show everyone what it means to be DeSoto Driven,” LaJaunie said.

DeSoto ISD welcomes LaJaunie to the Eagle family and looks forward to the continued growth and success of the district’s band program.
