Several DeSoto High School dancers recently participated in an exclusive Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blues Choreography Camp held Tuesday, April 7, at The Ford Center.

The invitation-only session focused on hip-hop fundamentals and routine choreography, giving students the opportunity to train directly with members of the Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blues team and their head coach. The experience provided professional-level instruction and insight for students interested in pursuing dance at the collegiate or professional level, including auditions for sports entertainment teams.

Students departed from DeSoto High School at 4 p.m. and returned later that evening after completing the training.

The Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blues team is the official hip-hop dance team of the Dallas Cowboys. Established in 2003, the team performs home games, community events, and major appearances throughout North Texas. Known for high-energy performances, precision choreography, and professional showmanship, the team represents a pathway for dancers seeking careers in professional sports entertainment.

“The skills, discipline, and exposure they gain transfer directly back into the classroom, elevating not only their individual performance, but the overall culture, expectations, and growth of our entire program. Experiences like this are part of how we intentionally build pathways, expand exposure, and prepare our students for continued opportunities in the dance industry.” said Regina Tucker

Participants from DeSoto High School included members of the DeSoto Dance Company and Dance I classes, representing multiple grade levels: two seniors, one junior, one sophomore and one freshman. The diverse group reflects the strength and continuity of DeSoto ISD’s dance program.

During that earlier session, McKenzie Fernandes was recognized by the Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blues staff and team as an outstanding dancer. Organizers shared their excitement about welcoming DeSoto students back to work with the program again this year.

“The DeSoto Fine Arts difference is about more than exposure; it’s about intentional daily preparation, where our students don’t just experience opportunities, they are equipped with the confidence, discipline, and fundamental excellence to walk into ANY space and not only belong, but excel there.” said Twynette Anderson, Director of Fine Arts

The Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blues Choreography Camp provided DeSoto dancers with hands-on training and mentorship from professionals currently working in the field, helping prepare them for future auditions and performance opportunities.
