At Woodridge Fine Arts & Gifted Academy, fifth‑grader Saraiyah Whitfield shines as a leader who blends courage, kindness, and academic drive. Whether she’s stepping up in Leadership Club, creating with purpose in Art Club, or pushing herself in challenges like the spelling bee, Saraiyah shows what excellence looks like in action.
Saraiyah embodies DeSoto ISD’s PRIDE value of Excellence—not just in her accomplishments, but in her character. She works hard, leans into challenges even when they feel uncomfortable, and carries a positive attitude that influences everyone around her. Teachers describe her as thoughtful, respectful, and quietly powerful—a student who leads by example.
Motivated by her own desire to grow and by the encouragement of her teachers and family, Saraiyah shows up each day ready to learn and ready to represent her school with pride. She believes success comes from effort, improvement, and treating people well—values that serve her both in the classroom and beyond.
This year, she’s especially proud of advancing through her class, campus, and district spelling bees, where she stepped outside her comfort zone and competed with confidence.
Now, she’s working toward her next big goal: acceptance into Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy, where she hopes to continue challenging herself academically and strengthening her leadership.
Saraiyah also makes a lasting impact on her school community. Through her actions, she encourages classmates to try harder, be kinder, and take pride in who they are. She helps build a culture of leadership and positivity—one choice, one moment, one example at a time.
She credits Ms. Hamilton, school counselor and Leadership Club advisor, for helping her believe in herself and grow into her strengths. With that encouragement—and her own determination—Saraiyah is well on her way to a bright future.
