The DeSoto Independent School District is sharing the key dates for the 2026–2027 academic calendar, following its official approval by the Board of Trustees in February. This calendar reflects thoughtful planning and community input to support student achievement, staff development, and strong family engagement across the district.
Key Dates for the 2026–2027 School Year
- First day of school for students: Monday, Aug. 10, 2026
- Labor Day (District Closed): Monday, Sept. 7, 2026
- Fair Day: Monday, Oct. 12, 2026
- Fall Break: Oct. 13–16, 2026
- Thanksgiving Break: Nov. 23–27, 2026
- Winter Break: Dec. 21, 2026 – Jan. 5, 2027
- Students return from Winter Break: Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2027
- Martin Luther King Jr. Day (District Closed): Monday, Jan. 18, 2027
- Presidents’ Day (District Closed): Monday, Feb. 15, 2027
- Spring Break: March 15–19, 2027
- Good Friday (District Closed): Friday, March 26, 2027
- Last day of school for students: Friday, May 21, 2027
- Memorial Day (District Closed): Monday, May 31, 2027
- Juneteenth (Observed): Saturday, June 19, 2027
Staff Preparation and Family Engagement
In preparation for the start of the school year, teachers will participate in professional development and workdays from July 27 through Aug. 7, 2026, ensuring campuses are fully prepared to welcome students on the first day of instruction.
Professional development days are also scheduled for Jan. 4 and Jan. 5, 2027, ahead of students returning from Winter Break on Jan. 6.
During the summer preparation window, campuses will host Beginning-of-Year Meet the Teacher events, providing families an opportunity to connect with teachers and learn more about the upcoming school year.

- Fall Semester: Sept. 24 – Oct. 2, 2026
- Spring Semester: Feb. 25 – March 4, 2027
The calendar also includes strategically placed staff development days and student holidays to support continuous learning, student wellness, and staff well-being.
