For 22 years, including 17 dedicated to DeSoto ISD, Brian Ross has built a legacy rooted in musical excellence, purposeful leadership, and unwavering belief in the potential of every student. As the High School Band Assistant Director and District Percussion Instructor, Ross plays a pivotal role in shaping the sound, structure, and success of DeSoto’s award‑winning music programs.

Ross models two core PRIDE values—Integrity and Purpose—in every element of his work.
“Integrity shapes how I lead with honesty, consistency, and accountability,” Ross explains. “Students, staff, and families should be able to trust my decisions and intentions.”

His sense of purpose fuels his commitment to student success. Whether he’s preparing students musically, emotionally, academically, or professionally, Ross designs programs and partnerships with their long‑term growth in mind.

“Together, Integrity and Purpose keep my leadership student‑centered and focused on preparing students to thrive.”

Transforming Lives Through the Arts

Ross believes deeply in the power of education—and especially the arts—to change a student’s life trajectory.

“My ‘why’ is helping students discover their value, develop confidence, and gain access to opportunities they may not otherwise see,” said Ross.

He is driven to open doors, remove barriers, and ensure students leave DeSoto ISD prepared for life with discipline, leadership skills, and a strong sense of identity.

Ross’s impact extends far beyond the band hall. His strengths in classroom management, program development, and mentorship help build safe, structured, and thriving learning environments.

“At my core, I’m an educator who can walk into any classroom and create structure, relationships, and a positive learning environment,” he says.

Through leadership, alignment, and service, he works to build strong school cultures and sustainable programs that prepare students for college, careers, and life.

Ross is intentional about nurturing both students and staff.

For students, he prioritizes emotional, artistic, academic, and professional growth, ensuring they feel seen and supported while pursuing opportunities such as scholarships and college pathways. For adults, he leads through clear expectations, consistent support, and meaningful professional development.

“By modeling integrity and staying student‑centered, I help cultivate a culture where both students and staff can thrive,” he shares.

One of Ross’s proudest accomplishments is guiding former student Jeremy Griffin to become the first—and only—DeSoto percussionist to reach the State level in competition.

“This achievement represents years of intentional instruction, high expectations, and unwavering belief in his potential,” Ross says. It continues to inspire current students to aim higher and believe in what’s possible.

Ross believes in striving for excellence and staying grounded amidst challenging circumstances. He shows up daily for students and staff—prepared, present, and engaged. He invests in relationships, understands individual needs, and delivers meaningful support both inside and outside the classroom.

According to Ross, resilience comes from truly understanding the backgrounds, experiences, and needs of those he serves. “By leading with consistency, high expectations, and genuine care, I create an environment where students feel valued and motivated to excel,” he said. “With patience, empathy, and flexibility, I stay focused on solutions and continue leading effectively even in high‑pressure moments.”

Ross is inspired not just by great performers, but by highly effective educators—those who understand pedagogy, student development, and how to build sustainable, impactful programs.

Their commitment to knowledge and excellence fuels his own practice.

Outside of the realm of music and education, Ross finds balance and joy in two things he loves deeply: soccer and his dogs. Both keep him grounded, energized, and connected to values like teamwork, loyalty, and discipline—qualities he brings into his work every day.

Ross is energized by the growing sense of possibility across the district.
He sees momentum building—barriers falling, alignment strengthening, and innovation thriving.

“It’s exciting to be part of work that makes a meaningful, lasting impact on students academically, artistically, and professionally,” Ross said. “With the right systems, supports, and leadership in place, the potential for our students and staff becomes limitless.”

DeSoto ISD is extremely proud of Brian Ross and his commitment to the DeSoto ISD School Community.
