DeSoto Independent School District invites families and community members to a special interactive cooking demonstration led by renowned nutritionist Paul Ritter, designed to help families discover how to enjoy their favorite Thanksgiving dishes with a nutritious twist—without sacrificing taste.

The two-hour event, titled “Let Food Be Your Medicine,” will take place on Tuesday, November 18, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Beltline Conference Center, located at 200 E. Belt Line Rd. in DeSoto.

This engaging and hands-on family session will feature live cooking demonstrations, delicious healthy samples, and practical nutrition tips focused on everyday wellness. Families will explore key health topics such as diabetes, inflammation, weight management, and heart health, while learning strategies for healthier cooking during the holiday season and beyond.

“Events like this bring learning to life for our families,” said Dr. Usamah Rodgers, DeSoto ISD Superintendent of Schools. “By blending community, culture, and wellness, we’re empowering our families to make informed choices that support both academic and personal success.”

Dr. Gene Morrow, DeSoto ISD Executive Director for Student and Staff Support Services and Child Nutrition, emphasized the district’s commitment to holistic health. “Nutrition plays a vital role in student achievement and overall well-being. This event gives families practical tools to improve their health while enjoying the foods they love.”

Kendal Harden, DeSoto ISD Parent and Community Engagement Specialist, highlighted the importance of family participation. “This event is about coming together—learning, tasting, and celebrating healthier lifestyles as a community. We want every family to leave inspired and equipped to bring wellness to their own tables.”

The event is free and open to all community members. Space is limited, and advance registration is encouraged.
