DeSoto ISD concluded its revamped Summer Bridge
program, EAGLE Bridge 2025, with a celebratory closeout event today, honoring
the academic commitment and growth of students in Cohorts 2027, 2028, and 2029.
The E.A.G.L.E. Bridge Program is a summer “bridge”
initiative designed to help students make a strong academic transition into
high school. The program’s
purpose is to reinforce core skills and close any learning gaps before
the new school year, giving students a solid foundation for high school
success. It is part of DeSoto ISD’s broader effort to boost college and career
readiness for its students.
The event saw family members and educators
gather to recognize the hard work of participating scholars, many of whom
received certificates of completion and special accolades for meeting academic
benchmarks. Cohort 2029 students were also proudly pinned, symbolizing their
continued journey toward academic excellence.
Led by five of DeSoto ISD’s current and former
Teachers of the Year, Tonisha Hedge and Lakesha Jackson (Katherine Johnson
TMA), Shaun Johnson (DeSoto West MS), Mary Moore (Curtistene McCowan MS), and
Latoya Williams (Ruby Young TAG), the program focused on strengthening skills
in English/Language Arts, writing, and mathematics. The initiative also
emphasized TSIA2 preparation, goal setting, and community-building under the
theme “Constructing Our Future” to “Establish Academic Goals and Leverage
Excellence.”
“Being involved in this
program has been incredibly meaningful to me, both personally and
professionally,” said Jackson. “I supported the reading and writing portion of
instruction, which is especially close to my heart. Knowing that I’m helping
students grow in confidence and skill—and ultimately get to the next level in
their learning—truly fills my cup. It’s rewarding to give back in a way that
directly impacts their academic journey.”
The event marked not just the end of a rigorous
summer learning experience but also a moment of pride for families who watched
their children be celebrated for their academic dedication. DeSoto ISD
continues to invest in programs like EAGLE Bridge to empower scholars and
support their path toward college and career success.
“We are excited to continue the work started
last year as we revamp our district Summer Bridge program and continue
‘Constructing our Future’ to ‘Establish Academic Goals and Leverage
Excellence,’” said Calvin Greene, Project Director, College Driven GEAR UP.
“Scholars are engaged daily in academic instruction centered around
English/Language Arts, Writing, and Mathematics with five DeSoto ISD Teachers
of the Year (current and former) leading the charge.”
