The DeSoto Independent School District Board of Trustees has formally approved the acceptance of a $1.7 million grant from the Texas Instruments (TI) Foundation, in partnership with Educate Texas, marking a transformative step forward in the district’s commitment to expanding access to high-quality STEM education.

This substantial award is part of a larger $7.2 million investment in STEM education across North Texas by the TI Foundation, aimed at increasing equity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics learning. The grant will strengthen DeSoto ISD’s ability to prepare students for success in college, career, and a rapidly evolving global economy.

“This generous investment from the Texas Instruments Foundation and Educate Texas allows us to deepen our commitment to innovation and ensure our students are prepared for an emerging workforce,” said Dr. Usamah Rodgers, DeSoto ISD Superintendent of Schools. “We’re excited to build on our strategic plan to equip every scholar in DeSoto ISD with the tools and experiences necessary to thrive in a 21st-century STEM environment. This grant affirms the work of our educators and the strong support of our community in advancing academic excellence.”

The TI Foundation STEM Implementation Grant will support a variety of strategic initiatives in DeSoto ISD, including:

  • Professional development for STEM educators across all grade levels

  • Enhanced math instruction through the P2C Connected Math Curriculum

  • Expansion of Biomedical Science and Engineering pathways

  • Development of AVID STEM programs to support college readiness

  • Growth of extracurricular opportunities, such as clubs, STEM camps, and academic competitions

“This funding enables us to further embed a STEM mindset into every facet of learning,” said Stephanie McCloud, Chief Academic Officer. “From increasing professional learning opportunities for educators to expanding student access to college credit and industry credentials, this grant will enhance our academic offerings and support our scholars in becoming future-ready leaders and innovators.”

The initiative aligns with DeSoto ISD’s broader strategic goals to provide rigorous, industry-informed curricula; foster hands-on, student-centered learning; and expand inclusive, future-focused pathways into high-demand fields like healthcare, engineering, and information technology.

Since 2019, the TI Foundation has invested more than $2 million in DeSoto ISD, supporting efforts that range from teacher recognition to student-centered innovation. This latest two-year grant reflects a continued commitment to advancing equity and academic achievement in historically underserved communities.

“The TI Foundation and Educate Texas share our vision of enhancing our community by preparing students to successfully transition into postsecondary education and/or the workforce,” added Dr. Rodgers. “With their partnership, we are poised to take bold steps toward a brighter, more opportunity-filled future for every DeSoto ISD scholar.”

DeSoto ISD looks forward to launching this new chapter of innovation, excellence, and impact—driven by meaningful partnerships and an unwavering focus on student success.
