DeSoto ISD to Host Athletic Signing Day on May 7, Celebrating Student-Athletes’ Next Chapter
DeSoto Independent School District (ISD) is proud to announce its annual Athletic Signing Day event, taking place on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 9:00 AM inside the Chris Dyer Gymnasium at DeSoto High School. This special occasion honors the commitment of DeSoto student-athletes who have earned the opportunity to compete and learn at the collegiate level.
Athletic Signing Day is a powerful and symbolic milestone in the lives of these student-athletes. It marks the culmination of years of dedication, discipline, and perseverance — both in the classroom and in athletic competition. This ceremony celebrates not just athletic talent, but also academic achievement and character, as these scholars take the next step in their educational and athletic journeys.
“This day is about more than just sports — it’s about opportunity, growth, and the doors that hard work can open,” said Claude Mathis, DeSoto High School Head Football Coach and Athletic Director. “Signing to play at the next level is a life-changing moment for our student-athletes. It’s a testament to their commitment, their families’ support, and the entire village that helped them get to this point. We couldn’t be more proud.”
Athletic Signing Day underscores DeSoto ISD’s dedication to its Triple-A Experience — Academics, Arts, and Athletics — which is designed to nurture well-rounded scholars who are prepared to thrive beyond high school. The student-athletes recognized on this day represent the best of DeSoto ISD, demonstrating excellence in athletic performance, academic responsibility, and leadership both on and off the field.
This year’s signees represent a range of sports programs and colleges across the nation, showing the breadth of opportunity and the strength of DeSoto’s athletic program. Families, coaches, teammates, and supporters will gather in celebration as these young men and women officially sign letters of intent to continue their education and athletic careers at the collegiate level.
