The DeSoto High School softball team has wrapped up its preseason scrimmages and is now fully into the 2025 season. Led by head coach Dennis Walker, the Lady Eagles have already tested their skills against tough opponents and are looking to build momentum as they approach district play.

DeSoto opened the season with a home game against Kimball on Feb. 11, followed by a road game at Carter on Feb. 14. The Lady Eagles then hosted SOC on Feb. 18 before heading into the highly anticipated Lancaster Tournament (Feb. 20-22), where the varsity squad is facing strong competition.

We're aiming to make the playoffs this year," said Walker.

"We have eight returning starters and three to four new additions. If you know softball, you know it only takes nine to play, so competition for playing time has been intense. The weather has also made things challenging. Right now, we’re 5-1, but we feel we should be 8-1. Our first home game is next Friday—so come check us out!”

With non-district play winding down, DeSoto will take on Arlington Lamar (Feb. 25, away) and Waco (Feb. 28, home) before shifting its focus to district competition in March. Senior Night is set for April 15 against Skyline, a game that will honor the team’s graduating players.
