New Principal Guides Expansion of The Meadows Elementary to Serve Kindergarten through Fifth Grade Scholars
The DeSoto Independent School District responded to community requests for expanded grade band offerings at neighborhood schools by expanding The Meadows Elementary to serve scholars in grades kindergarten through fifth grade starting in the 2024-2025 academic year.
Located in the thriving community of High Meadows within DeSoto ISD, The Meadows Elementary will be led by newly-appointed principal, Shauntai Hicks. Hicks has served as a teacher, and administrator, and has certifications in EC-6 core subjects, EC-12 Special Education, EC12 ESL, and EC12 Principal Instructional Leadership. Hicks holds a Bachelor of Science in Applied Learning and Development from the University of Texas at Austin and a Master of Educational Technology from Lamar University.
Traditionally and historically, the campus prides itself on providing individualized attention to cultivate the unique potential of each student through academic excellence and character development, and continuous improvement.
Recognizing the significance of science, technology, engineering, fine arts, and mathematics education, TME integrates a dynamic STEAM-focused curriculum empowering students to explore, innovate, and excel in these critical fields.
Aligned with the school’s mission, TME implements five-star fundamentals to support students' journey to success by:
- Building positive relationships with students.
- Daily execution of student-centered, rigorous lessons.
- Providing high-quality customer service to parents and community members.
- Self-reflection on best practices and growth opportunities.
- Operating with professionalism, ethics, and integrity every day.
The Meadows Elementary prioritizes personalized learning experiences, recognizing and celebrating the individual differences of each student. Our dedicated teachers tailor instruction to help students uncover their abilities, embrace their talents, and pursue their passions.
Creating a welcoming culture and supportive learning environment is paramount at The Meadows Elementary. We strive to cultivate a space where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
After-School Activities and Clubs:
TME students have the option to participate in a variety of after-school activities and clubs, ranging from cheerleading to student leadership. This allows students to explore their interests outside of the regular academic curriculum and develop skills in areas such as art, literacy, science, and leadership. Some of the top clubs at The Meadows Elementary include:
- The Meadows Art Club
- The Meadows Community Garden Club
- The Meadows Literacy Club
- The Meadows Science Club
- The Meadows Student Council
- The Meadows National Elementary Honor Society
Parent Engagement
TME relies on the PTA to enhance various aspects of student life, including community partnership programs, organizing field trips, and more. By becoming a PTA member, parents have the opportunity to contribute to the development of new student programs and participate in school-wide events and competitions. For parents unable to volunteer, staying informed about their child's progress is still essential. Utilizing the online parent portal allows parents to monitor their child's academic performance closely.
PTA members play a vital role in planning and executing special experiences for students, such as:
- Family engagement nights
- 5th-grade job shadowing
- Spelling bees
- Black history bowl
- Oratorical Competition
- Science fairs
- Donuts for Dad and Muffins for Mom
- Grandparents Day
- Family literacy night
- Family math night
- Goals nights
Enrollment is currently open for scholars in grades kindergarten through fifth at The Meadows Elementary. Those interested in attending TME may enroll at DeSotoISD.org/enrollment.
