DeSoto ISD made two major announcements this month regarding the launch of a new strategic plan designed to reshape educational experiences in the district and a community-wide initiative focused on collaboration and interdependent work to improve and elevate the DeSoto and Glenn Heights communities.

Both initiatives will require the active engagement of the community and invite participation in the following virtual events to learn more about these important opportunities:

DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees and DeSoto City Council Joint Meeting

Thursday, March 25, 2021--6:00 PM

This week, the DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees will hold a joint meeting with the DeSoto City Council to discuss this initiative and other matters at 6:00 PM on Thursday, March 25 via zoom. 

This meeting is a continuation of the conversation featured in the March 20 State of the District virtual meeting sponsored by the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce which focused on the work of the community North Star:

All people live in safe, multicultural communities, have the highest quality education, and are financially strong and empowered.

In this meeting, the community entities will continue their efforts to develop a concrete framework for the collaborative initiative including the development of memorandums of understanding for how the entities will work together, each entity's role in realizing the community vision and action steps to bring the vision to life.

This council meeting will also be live-streamed on the City of DeSoto's website at www.desototexas.gov and the City's Facebook page for those wanting to watch the meeting but not address the City Council. DeSoto ISD will share the live-feed on its Facebook page as well.

DeSoto ISD Virtual Town Hall

Tuesday, March 30, 2021--6:30 PM

DeSoto ISD is working to take an active role in tackling social justice through the district's new strategic plan titled “Be the Future,” which has key focal points on equity, access and dismantling the pipeline to prison through deep investments in early childhood education; college, career and military readiness; and community partnerships.

The DeSoto ISD invites you to three upcoming virtual events designed to communicate the "Be the Future" strategic plan, a roadmap for educational excellence in DeSoto ISD.

At 6:30 P.M. on TUESDAY, March 30, DeSoto ISD will host a Virtual Town Hall regarding the district’s “Be The Future” Strategic Plan & Big Shifts with the Honorable DeSoto Mayor Rachel Proctor serving as moderator and DeSoto ISD Superintendent Dr. D’Andre Weaver as the featured panelist.

This virtual event will focus on providing an overview of the district’s new strategic plan and what it will mean for the future of education in the DeSoto and Glenn Heights communities.

DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees and Glenn Heights City Council Joint Meeting

On April 13, 2021, the DeSoto ISD Board of Trustees will hold a joint meeting with the Glenn Heights City Council to discuss the North Star initiative and other matters at 7:00 PM. Access info regarding this meeting will be forthcoming.
