Congratulations to Curtistene S. McCowan Middle School sixth-grader Kaleb Torres who competed his way to the final spot in today’s district spelling bee competition.
After nine rounds of competition, Torres nailed the spelling of the word “cursive” to seal the win and claim the victory at this afternoon’s annual spelling bee which took place at the DeSoto Independent School District Board Room.
Torres overcame ten other finalists from DeSoto ISD elementary and middle schools in grades four through eight and will now compete in the county-level spelling bee in February in an attempt to advance to the 61st Annual Dallas Morning News Regional Bee in March.
Cockrell Hill Elementary fourth-grader Amira Meeks, will be the DeSoto ISD alternate for the county bee and finished as the second runner up in the district-level competition.
