Goals & Constraints

One of the most critical jobs that a Board of Trustees has, is to set the vision and direction of the school district in alignment with the community desires and values. Boards do this through the setting and monitoring of Board Goals and Constraints. Board Goals are critical student achievement milestones that the Board expects the Superintendent to be able to achieve in terms of boosting student outcomes. Constraints represent the values of the community that the Superintendent is not to violate in pursuit of the district’s achievement of the Board Goals.

Each Board Goal & Constraint is accompanied by Goal Progress Measures (GPMs) or Constraint Progress Measures (CPMs) – which help the board evaluate progress towards achieving the Goals & Constraints during the school year. The DeSoto ISD school board, with comprehensive community input, has set the Goals and Constraints for DeSoto ISD and monitors progress towards their achievement each month.
