Friday night lights will truly shine bright in DeSoto on October 18 as DHS Alum and current NFL All-Pro Denver Bronco Von Miller returns to Eagle Stadium where his #40 DHS football jersey will be retired during halftime of the Homecoming game!

Miller has met all the criteria for this accolade, having achieved district, regional and state awards while a student at DeSoto ISD, as well as continuing to excel at the collegiate and professional level. Miller has consistently supported the DeSoto ISD and the City of DeSoto through contributions and time.  In 2015, the City honored him with a VON MILLER DAY, and he has made a point to annually host a designated day of give-back and community service, featuring a day of free food, games and fun for the community. The list of contributions is expansive and includes a car for the DeSoto Police Department, a $50K donation to support district efforts including the Back to School Fair and a major contribution to the DeSoto Fire Department.

“This is a great opportunity to recognize the achievements of Von Miller! He is representative of the potential that exists in being a part of the DeSoto ISD Athletic program and is a testament to the caliber of student-athletes that we have here” DeSoto ISD Athletic Director Larry Davis expressed.

Superintendent D’Andre Weaver continued, “We have so much to be excited about here in DeSoto ISD. As a superintendent, it is amazing to see Von Miller return as an example of what can come out of DeSoto. We are a proud school community that hopes for and is working to position all students for successful outcomes like that of Mr. Miller.”

Miller’s brilliance at DHS included 37 tackles his junior year as linebacker.  As a Senior, he was District 8 5-A Defensive MVP after making 76 tackles.  In track and field, he competed successfully in 110 Hurdles and triple jump.  Considered a 4-star recruit by, Miller was listed as No. 29 out of the Texas top prospect rankings and number 15 for the weak side defensive end in the nation.  in 2007, Von was named to the All-Southwest Defense Team.  The Dallas Morning News named him to Sports Day Player of the Week.

A media briefing will be held Friday, October 18 at 6pm in the DeSoto Athletic Field House, 700 Eagle Drive., DeSoto, 75115.  The game begins at 7:30 with the retirement ceremony at half-time.
