In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month,  the Mexican Consulate in Dallas donated 400 books written in Spanish from the Secretaría de Educación Publica (SEP) to DeSoto ISD. The content areas include, reading passage compilations, short stories, writing exercises, Atlases, artistic expressions, geography, math concepts and more. Carlos Armando Padilla De La Cruz, consul general representative, Mexican Consul General, Francisco de la Torres, is a member of the Mexican Diplomatic Corps and has served in various posts around the world including Brazil and Argentina. He was appointed to the Mexican Consulate General in Dallas by the Mexican Congress on June 1.  District staff traveled to the Mexican Consulate in Dallas to pick up the books.  In order to increase the supply of reading materials in authentic Spanish to our 700+ Hispanic students, DeSoto ISD Director of Emergent Bilingual and Languages Other than English, reached out and asked for donations. As a result of this donation, over 700 students and families will have access to more reading materials in Spanish.
