Mission -
The mission of the Texas State Board of Education is “to ensure that all Texas children have access to a quality education that enables them to achieve their potential and fully participate now and in the future in the social, economic and educational opportunities of our state and nation.”

Philosophy - In order to best meet the needs of the gifted and talented students, DeSoto ISD provides opportunities to maximize student potential and nurture student talent.

Texas Definition of Gifted and Talented - A child or youth who performs at or shows the potential for performing at a remarkably high level of accomplishment when compared to others of the same age, experience, or environment and who:

  • exhibits high-performance capability in intellectual, creative, or artistic area
  • possesses an unusual capacity for leadership;
  • excels in a specific academic field.

DeSoto ISD's Gifted and Talented program (E.A.G.L.E.) addresses student intellectual ability and specific subject matter aptitude. Leadership and creative potential are integrated throughout the program.

Teacher Requirements - Each teacher of a talented and gifted class is required by the Texas Education Association to complete thirty hours of advanced training in gifted education and attend additional in-service annually.

Parents as Partners - Parents play an essential role in their child’s education. Parent and teacher interaction facilitates climate for emotional well-being, academic growth, and success in school.

Parents are encouraged to be involved in their child’s educational programs and GT program which promotes critical thinking, creative thinking, active research, and activities that allow students to create, design, and develop individual products that reflect their interest and choice.

DeSoto ISD educators look forward to working with you and your child. For questions about our GT program please contact the campus Gifted/Talented Specialist or the school counselor.
