In addition to the weekend meals that are currently offered by the district for all students, the DeSoto ISD Chartwells Child Nutrition team has received a grant from the No Kid Hungry program to provide additional weekend snack bags to children starting Thursday, October 1.

The weekend bags will have a variety of shelf-stable bulk items, such as soups and chips, and other items for students to enjoy at home with their families outside of their regular meals.

The child nutrition staff will give one (1) snack bag per child along with the regular meals on Thursdays as long as the program continues.

To receive the weekend snack bags, each parent is asked to bring documentation for their students for distribution record purposes as required by the grant program, especially if the student is not present.

Please be prepared to display one of these documents to receive a weekend snack bag:
Official letter/email/electronic school application from school listing children enrolled
Individual student report cards
Attendance record from parent portal of the school website, printed or electronic, that includes the child names
Birth certificates for children not in school
Student ID cards
Student Name and School that he or she attends

If the students do not attend a DeSoto ISD campus, they are still welcomed to receive the additional snack bags, but will still need to provide some form of documentation.

The weekend snack bags from No Kid Hungry are available at all grab and go meal sites each Thursday.
