Summer Re-Entry Plan

Summer 2020 Reconnect

DeSoto ISD is working to follow all guidance from various state agencies and Dallas County health officials with regard to reopening school facilities.

Although Governor Greg Abbott's Reopen Texas Plan includes general allowances for businesses and public facilities, it does not necessarily outline the reopening of school facilities.

DeSoto ISD looks to the Texas Education Agency (TEA) and Commissioner Mike Morath for guidance on when and if to open various school buildings and facilities. The other governing body is the University Interscholastic League (UIL) which oversees athletics, cheerleading and band. Local decisions for reopening are based upon the latest information about the spread of COVID-19, as well as guidance from the Dallas County Health Department, Judge Clay Jenkins, the City of DeSoto, and the City of Glenn Heights. We will continue to make updates to our COVID-19 website as facilities are prepared for opening as part of our re-entry plan.

All District offices and schools are closed to the public!

Although some Administrators and staff are working at the schools to prepare for the 2020-2021 school year, our school buildings and offices remain closed to the public. Please email or call your campus principal if you have questions or needs at the campus level.

Currently Operating Remotely

District leaders are working closely with health officials at the state and local levels to implement safe re-opening procedures. However, at this time, staff are continuing to work remotely out of an abundance of caution.

It is understood that not all tasks can be performed remotely, and therefore, work schedules for essential staff within the district have been developed with practices such as social distancing in mind. As a school community, DeSoto ISD continues to prioritize the health and well-being of each and every employee into consideration as we create and adjust schedules for where and how district operations will take place.

Summer Office Hours Begin June 1

A large majority of the administrative staff will continue to work remotely throughout the summer, so please email appropriate staff or direct communication to the district email account for a response within 24 hours.

Please note, the district administration building and district campuses are not currently open to the public.

Members of the public who have an appointment to pick-up or drop-off items are encouraged to wear a mask and follow safe social distancing procedures.

Summer hours of operation for district administration are 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, Monday through Thursday through the end of July 2020.
