DESOTO - Progress is composed of a series of goals and many small positive steps that collectively yield great results.

On Tuesday, November 12 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., DeSoto ISD invites all community members, district supporters, partners and stakeholders to login to the DeSoto ISD Facebook page to participate in the first DeSoto ISD Virtual Town Hall. It is one in a series of virtual town hall events planned for this year. The District aims to use this platform as a means to inform, engage and empower our stakeholders and to extend our message to a broader audience.

During this first virtual town hall meeting, the majority of the discussion will center around the C in the FOCUS priorities, the Campuses and Classrooms.

DeSoto ISD Superintendent of Schools, Dr. D’Andre Weaver and Celeste Barretto, chief of the Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment Department will share the details of the new Collaborative Learning Cycle (CPC) approach to instructional planning, the intense focus on teacher development and high-quality student learning that is being implemented throughout the district.

In addition to the major classroom discussion, Benjamin Mackey, chief of Research, Evaluation and Design, will also focus on the U in FOCUS, which is Unity. This priority emphasizes the ways in which the district will engage with its community of stakeholders. Specifically, Mackey will highlight the recent TEA grant received by the district and the unprecedented approach that DeSoto ISD is taking to create its Joint Strategic Plan in partnership with 5 other major community entities. Also, he will also share the progress of the DeSoto ISD partnership with The University of Texas at Austin to help build out the instructional plan for the district’s new admissions-based campus, the Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy.

DeSoto ISD is truly about “the work” being done in the district and has structured it into five main FOCUS priorities - an acronym for Finance, Organizational Redesign, Campuses and Classrooms, Unity and Systems and Sustainability. Attendees will also have a chance to learn about more ways to engage in the work being done in DeSoto ISD as a community member, parent, business or education partner and resident.

DeSoto ISD wants to hear from its stakeholders. Submit questions in advance of the online virtual town hall by clicking here.

These submissions and other questions submitted online during the actual town hall meeting will be reviewed and if selected, questions will be addressed during the presentation. All other questions and thoughts, not communicated during the live session can be addressed at another appointed time.

The DeSoto Independent School District is making small, intentional steps in each area of our district and already seeing some great outcomes. Be sure to watch the virtual town hall, follow us on our social media channels and stay connected to our progress at  www.DeSotoISD.org
