District Students Donate more than $1,400 to Area Food Pantry

DeSoto ISD elementary gifted and talented (GT) students raised funds for the DeSoto Food Pantry, donating $1,458.71 to help the pantry purchase items families may need for the upcoming holiday season. According to the DeSoto Food Pantry website, $280.00 can purchase one ton of food. Therefore, the donation from DeSoto ISD elementary GT students represents over 10,000 pounds of food.

The DeSoto Food Pantry serves residents of DeSoto and Dallas County Glenn Heights residents with income-based on TEXCAP guidelines.

Each DeSoto ISD campus’ collection efforts are as follows:

Cockrell Hill Elementary                                               $ 278.03

Katherine Johnson Technology Magnet Academy  $ 100.00
The Meadows Elementary                 $ 203.00
Northside Elementary     $ 202.00
Woodridge Elementary                                  $ 95.84
Ruby Young Elementary                              $ 350.30

 

Students raised money at their respective campuses and encouraged their peers and families to donate. Students also visited district offices to collect donations from district employees.
