Brittany Yearby, a 2007 DeSoto graduate, and junior biology major at Prairie View A&M University, will be featured as head majorette of the PVAMU Marching Storm Band majorettes "The Black Foxes," on October 3 at the Southwest Airlines State Fair Classic at the Cotton Bowl.

Texas A&M’s Sydney Carter, a 2008 DeSoto Graduate, is among 27 of the nation’s top 19 year old-and-under athletes who have accepted an invitation to attend the 2009 USA Basketball Women’s U19 World Championship Team Trials to be held May 14-17 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. Carter, a member of the 2008 State Runner Up DeSoto team,was honored on the 2009 Big 12 Conference All-Freshman Team for her outstanding first-year of play for the Aggies. She was twice selected as Big 12 Freshman of the Week. Training camp for the U19 Team will begin on July 8 in Colorado Springs, and the 12-member roster will be announced prior to the team’s departure for the FIBA U19 World Championships to be held July 23-Aug.2 in Bangkok, Thailand.

Danny S. McCowan, a 1984 graduate of DeSoto High School, is proud to announce the recent graduation of his daughter, Tiana Danielle McCowan, from University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff. A devoted husband and father of three girls, Danny has demonstrated his commitment to service and higher education by successfully completing nine years in the United States Air Force and receiving his bachelors and masters degrees from the University of Phoenix. Danny is employed with the Federal Aviation Administration. His parents, Leon & Curtistene McCowan, reside in DeSoto.

Jarvis Wesley, 2009 DeSoto Graduate, is an upcoming Gospel Artist who is having an Album Release gathering coming up June 5, 2010. It is free and located in DeSoto at Praise Temple (209 W. Parkerville Rd). Doors open at 7 p.m. and door prizes will be given!

Von Miller, 2006 DeSoto Graduate, won the 2010 Dick Butkus Award for the best collegiate defensive lineman for his play at Texas A&M! Congratulations Von!

Kelli Willingham, 2010 DHS graduate, was voted onto the 2010-11 Conference USA five-member All-Freshman squad. She leds UT El Paso in assists (6th in league) and steals. She has scored 7 or more points in 14 of the past 17 games.
