The DeSoto ISD Board Fellows Program matches DeSoto ISD students with the Board of Trustees as a non-voting but vocal panel. Both students and the district benefit from the program by providing this select group of students the opportunity to develop valuable leadership skills and experience serving on an executive committee. DeSoto ISD gains access to the ideas and energy of future leaders and establishes long-term relationships with the community.

Fellows attend Board Meetings and relevant committee meetings where they have the opportunity to provide insights that will enhance the educational opportunities for their peers and future #EagleScholars. Fellows review the district under the mentorship of a current board member where they work together to refine and develop feedback, target key deliverables, conduct necessary analysis and ultimately prepare recommendations for review.

Program objectives for the Board Fellows includes preparing DeSoto ISD students to be socially-responsible leaders through service on executive boards; supporting local public education by applying Fellows’ educational experiences and academic background to solve strategic, organizational, and operational issues that enhance the work of the board; building DeSoto ISD’s reputation of producing socially-responsible and community-oriented leaders while making a positive impact on the DeSoto and Glenn Heights communities.

The program was developed under the guidance and support of DeSoto ISD Board President Carl Sherman Jr.
