Superintendent Advisory Councils

WEAVER STUDENT

The DeSoto Independent School District is now accepting applications for the Superintendent's Student Advisory Council for the 2019-2020 school year. This opportunity provides a forum for students to have direct communication and interaction with Dr. Weaver, as well as the chance to discuss strategies to improve the educational experiences for students enrolled in DeSoto ISD. The council allows students to voice their opinions on a variety of topics and work together to create solutions for select issue
s that are important to students and the school district.

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council is comprised of student ambassadors from grades 5-12 serving as the voice of their respective student bodies and schools. Participants will engage in conversations related to rigorous and diverse academic experiences, robust extracurricular opportunities, comprehensive student support services, fair and consistent school culture and discipline, authentic platforms for student voice and representation, technology, college and career readiness, student leadership, and community outreach.

The Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council will meet at least once a six weeks to discuss relevant and pressing topics centered on public education and student experiences in DeSoto ISD.

In addition to the Student Advisory Council, Dr. Weaver also has a number of other advisory councils that he works with throughout the year.

The Teacher Advisory Council meets monthly and is comprised of the teachers of the year from 2017-2018 and 2018-2019 as well as a principal-nominated teacher from each campus. The Parent Advisory Council also meets monthly and is comprised of parent volunteers who offer input, ask questions and help communicate information about the district. In addition to gaining insights from the student, parent and teacher perspective, Dr. Weaver also has a principal-focused touch-point and a group established for members of our community who are not parents or employees of the district. The Community Voices group also meets monthly and serves as a means to create a line of communication to and from the residents of DeSoto, Ovilla and Glenn Heights.
