2012-13 School Calendar

First Day of School - Monday, August 27, 2012!
School Hours of Operation -

  • Elementaries (K to 5th) 8:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m.
  • PreK: AM - 8-11:15 a.m.; PM - 12-3:15p.m.
  • Middle School (6th to 8th) 8:00 a.m. - 3:45 p.m.
  • Freshman Campus/DHS (9th-12th) 7:30 a.m. - 2:54 p.m.
  • DAEP (all) 8:00 a.m. - 2:54 p.m.

School Zone Times (on school days only)

  • Mornings 7:00 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
  • Afternoons 2:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m.

REGISTRATION

 

General Registration Information

Parents should review the attendance zone maps to determine their assigned campus prior to registering via the district Website or at campuses.

 

Please bring the following to register your child:

  • original copy of birth certificate
  • immunization records
  • social security card
  • report cards/transcripts (if available)
  • proof of residency (current water, gas, or electricity bill) and
  • parent / guardian driver’s license 

 

Kindergarten Registration

Kindergarten registration for all incoming kindergartners will be held Monday, April 30 – Friday, May 4, 2012 at each elementary campus. A child must be age 5 on or before Sept. 1 to enter kindergarten and age 6 to enter first grade.

 

New Student Registration (all grades)

Registration for students new to DeSoto ISD (all grades) will be held Tuesday, August 14 through Friday, August 17, 2012 from 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. at each campus.

 

Pre-K Registration

Pre-K Registration for students that qualify will be Tuesday, August 14, 2012 from 8 to 11 a.m. and 1 to 3 p.m. at Frank Moates Elementary. A child is eligible for Pre-K if the child is age 4 on or before Sept. 1 and:

  • the family qualifies for free or reduced meal program (please fill out Child Nutrition application at 200 W. Parkerville prior to registering at school); or
  • is unable to speak or comprehend English; or
  • is a homeless child; or
  • is the child of an active duty member of the armed forces or child of an injured or deceased member of the armed forces; or
  • has been or is in conservatorship of the state.

Breakfast and Lunches  The DeSoto ISD makes nutritional breakfast and lunches available for all students. Menus are available at each school, online and monthly in the Focus newspaper. The free- and reduced-meal program is available for eligible students. Click here for more information.

Code of Conduct and Student Handbooks   DeSoto ISD students and their parents are responsible for reading and understanding all policies outlined in the DeSoto ISD Code of Conduct as well as each campus student handbook. Any violations will be disciplined in accordance with the policies and the law.

Transportation Services   Transportation is available for students living two or more miles from their home schools. For more information and routes, contact your school. For transportation questions, please call Dallas County Schools at 972-224-7329.

Inclement Weather Alerts  In the event of inclement weather, DeSoto ISD officials make every effort to notify the media prior to 6 a.m. of the day in question. In addition, the district utilizes an alert system to call and/or e-mail all DeSoto ISD families.

Student Dress Guidelines (Uniforms)   DeSoto ISD has a uniform dress policy for students in all grades and at all campuses. In general, students must wear white, forest green, gold or black tops and khaki, black or DeSoto plaid bottoms. District administrative staff will have complete and final judgment on all matters concerning interpretation of the student uniform dress code.

Student UIL Athletics    Seventh- through twelfth-graders are eligible to participate in UIL competitive athletics. All participants must have physicals, parental acknowledgment forms, and emergency information on file before the first practice. Click here for forms and details.
